A Message from Children’s Hospital Leadership

What makes a great Children’s Hospital?
It takes the dedication of outstanding health professionals, breadth of services, advanced technology – and vision.
WVU Children’s Hospital is a large community of professionals devoted to providing the finest possible pediatric patient care, education, and research. Our technological resources are second to none. Our vision is not only to provide every kind of medical care a child might ever need, but also to reach across the state and improve the health of all West Virginia children.
Twenty-one percent of the state’s population is under age 18. These several hundred thousand children represent our future, and many are at high risk for health problems. If we can improve their health as children, we’ll have a huge effect on their lives as they grow into adults.
Excellence is our standard at WVU Children’s Hospital, and our success in upholding that standard is the reason we’ve become the region’s leader for pediatric and obstetrical care. Providing medical care to children, training the pediatric specialists of the future, and developing new therapies for future generations are weighty responsibilities, but they also represent a great privilege and an extraordinary mission. We also embrace the challenge of being the region’s leader for mothers at high risk for complications in pregnancy and childbirth.
But we are not satisfied. We continue to grow rapidly – recruiting new pediatric specialists to extend the range of care, expanding and updating our facilities (our new 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit is as advanced as any in the world), and adding child-friendly technology. We recently expanded our transport program to help patients reach us for care.
We hope this website conveys the enthusiasm of all of us at WVU Children’s Hospital – and expresses our commitment to serve your patients and support your practice in any way we can.
