Pediatric Centers of Excellence

Neurology/Neurosurgery
Our pediatric neurological services are a crucial resource for the state and surrounding region and encompass a broad spectrum of disciplines. Neurologists, neurosurgeons, and neuropsychologists collaborate with specialists in other fields to provide top quality care.
The Klingberg Neurodevelopmental Center offers multidisciplinary diagnostic evaluations for children displaying difficulties in the areas of development, attention, learning, and sleep. Our core team includes a pediatric neurologist, an educational psychologist, a social worker, and a parent educator. Margaret E. Jaynes, MD, has special expertise in attention deficit disorders in children and is co-director of WVU’s MDA clinic. She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology -- Child Neurology.
WVU's Epilepsy Center provides comprehensive care for pediatric patients with seizure disorders, and provides hope to those who have not been helped by medications.
Our team of neurosurgeons, neurologists, radiologists, neuropsychologists, and other epilepsy experts diagnose and evaluate patients as possible candidates for surgery, often an effective option when medication fails. Our Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, the only one in the state, serves children and adults. WVU Children's Hospital features a specially equipped room that is used for continuous video EEG monitoring.
John Collins, MD, West Virginia's only pediatric neurosurgeon, provides state-of-the-art care for infants, children, and adolescents with problems of the brain and spine.
WVU's acquisition of a Gamma Knife has increased our ability to provide the full range of advanced neurosurgical care to young patients. Our sleep lab offers monitoring and a variety of treatments for children with apnea, restlessness, insomnia, parasomnia, and other sleep disorders. We make special accommodations for pediatric patients, simulating each bedtime experience as closely as possible. Double beds in our pediatric evaluation rooms allow parents to stay with their children.
Other neurology specialty clinics include an Attention Deficit Disorder clinic and a Muscular Dystrophy Association clinic.
