General Information
Planning your child’s stay
What to Bring
You may bring your child's own pajamas to wear while in the hospital if the medical or surgical care permits. You should alsobring a toothbrush, toothpaste, comb and brush, clothes for going home, and cases for glasses, contact lenses, or dental appliances. You also may bring your child's favorite toys, books, or blankets. You are responsible for your child's belongings while he or she is in the hospital.
What Not to Bring
Do not bring valuables such as money, credit cards, or jewelry. No more than $10 is needed for newspapers and other items. If your family cannot take valuables home, you may place them in the hospital safe on Level 1 when you check in. The safe is available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. The hospital is not responsible for valuables not placed in the safe.
Cell Phones
Cell phones canpotentially interfere with important medical equipment. If patients or visitors bring cell phones into the hospital, they must be kept completely turned off, not just left in the standby position. Cell phones may be used in specified areas of the hospital, including the central lobby on Level 1, near the visitor elevators on each floor, and in the Cafeteria on Level 4.
Special Communication Needs
Interpretation services for patients who do not speak, or who speak limited English, will be provided. Auxiliary aids and services will be provided for patients with communication disabilities. Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) is available free of charge to patients who need this service. To make arrangements for TDD equipment, call Customer Support at 304-598-4357.
Arriving at the Hospital
You may park in the patient and visitor lot in front of Ruby Memorial Hospital. Obtain a parking pass from the officer in the security booth at the center of the lot. If you have questions about parking, ask the officer.
When you enter the hospital, go directly to the unit where you will be staying. If you need directions, stop at the front desk in the East Lobby for assistance.
