Special Rooms for Special Kids

The WVU Children's Hospital Pediatric Hematology and Oncology program provides expert care for children with benign and malignant blood-related disorders.

Many patients being treated for cancer often have compromised immune systems. WVU Children's Hospital offers three protective environment rooms designed specifically for our pediatric cancer patients. These special rooms prevent germs in the air from infecting patients who might not be as able to fight off infection.

Since many of the patients who use these rooms spend a significant amount of time in the hospital, each room contains a patient bed and a sleeper sofa for family members. There is a divider curtain to provide some private space for both the patient and family members. Additionally, each room is equipped with a bathroom (complete with a shower), and additional storage space for clothes and personal Items.
